Christian Eriksen joins new club after snubbing bold move from Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham following Man United exit

Christian Eriksen has joined a new club after rejecting a proposal from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham in the Championship.

The Danish midfielder, who left Manchester United at the end of last season, has been exploring his options after becoming a free agent and turned down a stunning approach from the ambitious Welsh club in July, with the hope of continuing his career at a top-flight team.

And now, just 10 days after the close of the summer transfer window, Eriksen’s patience has been rewarded.

Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have confirmed the arrival of the Dane, who flew from Odense to Braunschweig on Wednesday in a bid to finalise the move.

Danish outlet Tipsbladet reported on Wednesday that the free transfer was on the verge of completion, subject to a successful medical – and the move was finalised yesterday evening.

Announcing the news, Wolfsburg posted photos of Eriksen in his new kit, with the caption: ‘It’s time for the green era.’

The move sees Eriksen team up with compatriot Peter Christiansen, who was appointed Wolfsburg’s managing director for sport back in 2024.

Since Christiansen’s arrival, the German club have signed several Danish players including the likes of Andreas Skov Olsen, Jesper Lindstrom, Joakim Mahle and Jonas Wind.

Eriksen, 33, boasts the most international appearances for the country with 144 to his name.

While rejecting the advances of Wrexham this summer, Eriksen was also a target for Burnley and Malmo during the transfer window.

His decision to join Wolfsburg will represent his first opportunity in the Bundesliga, given he has previously played for Eredivisie giants Ajax, Serie A club Inter and Premier League outfits Tottenham, Brentford and Man United during his career so far.
