Tottenham wonderkid once compared to Neymar joins Rangers on season-long loan in bid for more game time

Tottenham wonderkid once compared to Neymar joins Rangers on season-long loan in bid for more game time

Tottenham wonderkid Mikey Moore has joined Rangers on a season-long loan.

The talented 17-year-old became the youngest Spurs player to feature in the Premier League just over a year ago and has departed to continue his development.

The deal does not include an option or obligation to buy and Spurs view Moore, who moves north of the border with a glowing reputation, as a crucial part of their future.

Moore told Rangers’ website: ‘I’m excited to get going. As soon as I heard Rangers were interested and wanted me to come, it was a massive opportunity for me.

‘I’m excited to be here and hopefully I can show the fans and everyone what I can do.

‘I think with the new boss and the way that we play, it’s a great place to be at the minute. It was a pretty easy decision for me to come here.’

The forward netted his first senior goal against Elfsborg in January – on Spurs’ path to winning the Europa League – and broke club legend Jimmy Greaves’ record as the youngest English scorer in a major European competition.

He will wear the No 47 shirt at Ibrox.

Rangers head coach Russell Martin said: ‘His profile as a brave, aggressive attacking player is one that we were keen to add to the squad, and he is certainly a player who, despite his age, can make an impact on the team from day one.

‘He is a player with huge potential, and it is testament to his quality that he has been entrusted by Spurs in both the Premier League and Europa League with such regularity over the last 18 months.’

Moore signed his first professional contract last August, on a deal running until 2027.

He made his breakthrough into Spurs’ first team at the end of the 2023-24 campaign after being brought on as a substitute against Manchester City.

England Under-19 international Moore made 19 senior outings under Ange Postecoglou last season, scoring once and registering two assists.

James Maddison praised Moore after he dazzled in a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar last October, declaring: ‘I thought we had Neymar on the left wing!’

Maddison added: ‘He is fearless, [he has] that young, fearless mentality. He’s a brilliant lad, he has bags of ability.’
