Pep Guardiola breaks silence on Ederson’s omission from Man City squad against Wolves after European side made approach for star

Pep Guardiola breaks silence on Ederson’s omission from Man City squad against Wolves after European side made approach for star

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson was left out of their season opener with Wolves amid an approach from Galatasaray.

City manager Pep Guardiola put the Brazilian’s absence down to illness.

‘He had stomach problems yesterday, he vomited and didn’t feel good,’ said Guardiola. ‘The doctors decided he should stay in Manchester.’

However, it is also understood Galatasaray have made an offer of around £8.6million for the 31-year-old who has been considering his future over the past year.

City would want more to sell Ederson but, should he depart, they hold an interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris St Germain.

The Italy international is leaving the European champions after being told he is no longer first choice under coach Luis Enrique.

James Trafford, City’s £27m summer signing from Burnley, started for Guardiola’s side at Molineux with Stefan Ortega named on the bench.

Ederson has been a key part of City’s success since joining the club in 2017 and has made 372 appearances.

Speaking after City’s 3-0 win at Wolves, Guardiola said: ‘I don’t have info. Today, I don’t have info.

‘Yesterday I saw his illness with gastroenteritis, and it’s the only [thing] I know. And after I didn’t speak with Hugo [Viana] and the club, so I don’t have any news.

‘Always I have my theory; if a player wants to leave, he has to leave. BUT, on the conditions of the club.

Because if we wanted to sign that player, we pay the conditions of a club.

‘But the final decision, and the way they make deals, belongs 100% to the club and not to me. So I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next two weeks’.
