Florian Wirtz wins 1,000,000 Japanese Yen for claiming man of the match award in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Yokohama

Florian Wirtz was the star of the show as Liverpool beat Yokohama FM on Wednesday and the new signing was awarded a special prize for his efforts.

The Reds ended their tour of Asia with a 3-1 victory over the Japanese at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama.

The home side took a surprise lead shortly after half-time but Wirtz levelled the scores when he pounced from 12 yards.

Arne Slot’s side then completed the turnaround through goals from Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha.

Wirtz, who completed a £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer, pulled the strings until he was replaced in the second half.

And he was named man of the match after the referee brought the pre-season clash to an end.

The German and his team-mates then lifted the J-League World Challenge trophy before he was presented with a reward of his own.

Wirtz was seen holding a large sign which recognised his man of the match award and the additional prize that came with it.

The 22-year-old is the recipient of 1,000,000 Japanese Yen, which equates to £5,054.

Big things are expected of Wirtz this season, the player arriving with a reputation as one of the world’s best attacking midfielders.

He has signed a five-year contract At Anfield, which will see him make a base salary in the region £200,000-a-week.
