Bayern Munich’s director of sport has opened up on Harry Kane’s current rare goal drought.

The England captain is enduring an uncharacteristic difficult spell having not scored from open play since November 22.

He has netted two penalties in that period, which has also coincided with a winter break and a muscle injury that saw the No 9 stuck on the sidelines for another four matches.

Kane’s lack of form was on display during Bayern Munich’s 3-0 loss to Feyenoord in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The striker squandered three chances to get on the scoresheet as the Bundesliga giants suffered a shock heavy defeat in the Netherlands.

However, Bayern chief Max Eberl says Kane’s poor form does not worry him – but admits they need his goals.

Bayern Munich’s director of sport Max Eberl says Kane’s rare goal drought is not a worry

He said: ‘Harry [Kane] is the least of my worries. When you have a young player, you might worry more, but Harry Kane has had so many highs and also some lows. So if anyone can cope and deal with it, it’s Harry Kane.

‘He hasn’t scored from open play for a long time, but he also was injured.

‘Of course, we need his goals. He knows that and is probably the one who is most critical of himself.

‘But I don’t think it’s causing a mental problem for Harry.’

Despite his recent struggles, Kane’s goal tally since his £100million move from Tottenham in August 2023 remains impressive.

The 31-year-old scored 44 goals in 45 games in his debut season – and has netted another 22 in 24 appearances so far this term.

He will seek to return to form when Vincent Kompany’s Bayern visit Freiburg on Saturday, with the side four points clear of champions Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.
