Mohammed ben Sulayem, the ruler of world motorsport, has presented his critical backing to the radical reform of Formulation One’s race weekend schedule.

The FIA president’s views on the revolutionary proposals have been unknown until eventually he told Mail Activity on Sunday evening: ‘The sprint is superior for the sport.’

With his tacit blessing, a new format is now nearly sure to be voted into existence at the F1 Fee on Tuesday, with unanimous assist from the teams anticipated.

Beneath the proposals drawn up by F1 chief government Stefano Domenicali, ‘sprint race’ weekends will have on the Friday 1 follow session adopted by qualifying for the Sunday grand prix.

Saturday will be ‘Sprint Saturday’. It will start out with qualifying to determine the starting get for the dash race, which will then consider put in excess of a single 3rd of the grand prix length that afternoon.

Sunday will continue being as it is now with the grand prix by itself.

Dash qualifying will be staged throughout a few sessions of 12, 10 and eight minutes. The idea powering the final — and shortest — session is that groups will only be in a position to complete 1 flying lap, introducing more jeopardy than is the case in the common 10-moment shootout.

This program, if handed, will be rolled out throughout 6 weekends this calendar year, beginning in the Azerbaijan funds Baku at the finish of this 7 days. Austria, Belgium, Qatar, The united states (Austin) and Brazil are the other dash venues.

The structure for non-dash weekends will stay as it is.
