Transfer news: 12 Premier League deals that could still happen this month

The end of the January transfer window is looming with deadline day on the horizon – but there is still plenty of business to be done.

Teams at the top of the Premier League are desperate to strengthen ahead of a second-half push for Champions League football and silverware.

Meanwhile, the lucrative nature of staying in the Premier League is prompting those facing relegation to finalise any last-minute deals which could ultimately be the difference.

Sportsmail takes a closer look at 12 potential transfers involving Premier League clubs that could yet go through before the deadline of 11pm on Tuesday.

Sergio Rico

Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico after missing out on Keylor Navas last minute.

Forest’s first-choice keeper Dean Henderson suffered an injury in the club’s Premier League victory over Leicester earlier this month with his return date still unknown, and Navas was hoped to provide competition to Wayne Hennessey for a spot in the starting XI.

However, despite initially showing a willingness to let the vastly experienced Navas leave, the French giants have changed their mind and offered Forest the option of taking his team-mate Rico instead.

Rico now looks more likely to arrive at the City Ground as a deputy for Henderson ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

Forest, who made 23 signings in the summer, have already brought in Danilo, Gustavo Scarpa and loanee Chris Wood this January.

Moises Caicedo

Is Mikel Arteta set to strengthen his squad even further ahead of Arsenal’s push for a first Premier League title in 19 years?

Brighton are standing firm that Moises Caicedo is not for sale but Arsenal need to hit £80m to make them change their minds.

Having failed with their original offer of £60million on Friday, the Gunners then tabled a new bid worth £65m plus a further £5m in add-ons – which was also rejected.

It comes despite Caicedo taking to social media to plead with Brighton to let him leave.

The Seagulls would need to find a replacement and  RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara is one option.

Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea have reopened talks with Benfica over a deal for World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez, with the clubs now meeting over a £106million offer.

Chelsea, who confirmed the £26.3m signing of Malo Gusto from Lyon on Sunday, had an offer of around £75m plus bonuses rejected for Fernandez earlier in the month.

Therefore, the Premier League giants will travel to Portugal on Monday, according to reports, to host a new round of talks with Benfica and offer to pay the 22-year-old’s £106m release clause in instalments.

Fernandez has been very public in his attempts to leave the Portuguese club during the January transfer window.

Cedric Soares

Arsenal defender Cedric Soares looks set to join Fulham on loan, with the Cottagers eager to make Shane Duffy’s loan from Brighton permanent to make room.

He is an experienced Premier League defender with 158 appearances in the top flight, and Silva made it a priority to bring the 31-year-old to Craven Cottage this window.

With zero league starts this season for Arsenal, Soares should get the chance for more playing time under his former coach.

Arsenal are also waiting to hear back on whether they can finalise a deal for Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda.

Pedro Porro

It still remains in the balance as to whether Tottenham can successfully pursue their top transfer target Pedro Porro.

The north London club are still locked in talks with Sporting Lisbon over a £39million deal.

Sportsmail initially reported on Saturday morning that there was a hitch over the payment structure from Sporting’s perspective – causing the deal to break down – but Spurs’ swoop for Porro was back on by the evening after Saturday’s Portuguese League Cup final.

Reneging on previously agreed terms, Sporting then called the deal off once again on Monday morning while Spurs were preparing for the Spanish full-back’s medical.

Antonio Conte may ship out 22-year-old full-back Djed Spence on loan, with the defender struggling for minutes since making his £20million move from Forest.

Anthony Elanga

The Manchester United and Sweden winger has been linked with a loan move amid his frustration over a lack of minutes under Erik ten Hag.

Both PSV and Borussia Dortmund are waiting to see if they can bring the 20-year-old in until the end of the season, but will have to wait until the last minute.

Elanga has started just seven games under Ten Hag, despite breaking into the first-team under Ralf Rangnick.

The Dutch manager is still reluctant to let players go as he attempts to build a competitive squad at Old Trafford.

Matias Vina

Bournemouth are close to finalising a deal for Roma left-back Matias Vina in a bid to boost their survival hopes.

Vina was seen at the airport in Rome but talks are ongoing over a loan deal after he became unsure on Sunday night.

The Cherries will pay an £800,000 loan fee to take the Uruguayan defender on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old has seen his chances at Roma limited under Jose Mourinho this season, with just three Serie A appearances, and 15 games where he has been left as an unused substitute.

Diego Llorente

Leeds defender Diego Llorente is in talks to join Roma on loan with obligation for around £18m.

The Spaniard has fallen out of favour in Jesse Marsch’s struggling side, making just eight Premier League appearances this season.

The centre-back has already arrived in Italy to complete the move but details of the deal are still being discussed between the two clubs.

Felipe

Atletico Madrid centre-back Felipe has also been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.

The veteran defender had been linked with Wolves, but Forest have now opened talks with the Spanish club in a bid to add Felipe to their long list of new recruits since returning to the Premier League.

The Former Porto centre-back joined Atletico Madrid in 2019, making 85 appearances for the LaLiga side.

Sander Berge

Fulham are in talks over a £20million deal – plus add-ons – to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge.

Berge, who was Sheffield United’s record signing when arriving for £22m from Genk in 2020, was left out of Paul Heckingbottom’s squad for the 3-3 draw with Wrexham in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Brighton and Newcastle, among other clubs, are also interested in the 24-year-old Norway international.

The Cottagers are also waiting to hear on whether they can secure deals for Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic and Fluminese youngster Andre.

Naouirou Ahamada

Crystal Palace are closing in on signing Stuttgart midfielder Naouirou Ahamada for £11million.

Sportsmail understands the central midfielder will join on a three-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further two years.

The French Under 18 midfielder will undergo a medical today ahead of his move to Selhurst Park.

Ahamada joined Stuttgart from Juventus and the French Under 18 international has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season for the Bundesliga side.

Thorgan Hazard

Everton are attempting to swoop in for Borussia Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard in a bid to bolster their relegation fight this season.

Hazard has struggled for playing time this season, starting just six games for Dortmund in all competitions.

They will also have to face competition from PSV Eindhoven for the 29-year-old Belgian, who is the brother of Eden Hazard.

The Toffees are also chasing several names at French side Rennes, including Kamaldeen Sulemana – who Southampton are also vying for.

Sulemana only joined Rennes in the summer of 2021 from Nordsjaelland in Denmark but is open to leaving the French side this month.

The Saints have submitted a £17.5million bid for the winger.
